A dream! A long black snake going in circles chasing its own tail, August Kekule woke from his dream and Eureka! The true structure of the benzene ring was born.

This brings me to the topic:  EVERYDAY WITH CHEMISTRY.

From the  colours produced by the Neon gas  on the electronic billboards on the streets of New York to the colors of fireworks created from Sulphur and Charcoal that excites that little girl going for Halloween, and the guttation of the foliage in Grandma’s house caused by potassium ions beautifying her garden and providing her efo riro. Chemistry is working!

Darkness is overshadowed by the Tungsten in the light bulb illuminating the street where that teenager writes graffiti on the wall with a permanent marker containing alcohol, little does he know alcohol is also present in the vanilla  flavored  ice cream he is eating. The wall on which he writes is plastered with cement composed of silica and alumna. A panel deliberates, and silica and alumina is on the table in form of a glass cup and on the Chairman’s glasses.

Hydrochloric acid produced in Soji’s stomach makes him yell on the balcony in Zik Hall “I am chased by books”, as he walks to the cafeteria, he sights Clara with her hair is lacquered with gum Arabic from the tree under which they both sit.

Pa Muhktar dies at age 131years because potassium chloride accumulated in his cardiac muscle. Puzzled by His age? He claimed he was born when salt was expensive. Salt! What salt potassium chloride, sodium sulphate? Oh! Sodium chloride.  Do you know it was the same salt that was applied to clear the snow off the road in Washington, so his grandson could catch his flight on time so he wouldn’t miss the funeral?

But like a kiss from a friend could bring you happiness, it could also crucify you. Young men, if you want to have a little girl call you ‘daddy’! Stay away from pyridine and Bilikis; if you want your husband to say twenty years from now and say “that’s the woman I married” please don’t rub your skin with hydroquinone on your skin!

Oh! What in the world is not chemistry! Your dream tonight might simply be…..chemistry.
